The ISM Code
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted existing guidelines on the management for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention after a series of marine accidents in the late 1980s.
Recognizing the importance of an international code for the safety of the marine environment and property, the organization made the guidelines mandatory for all passenger ships, tankers, chemical carriers and gas and bulk carriers over 500GT.
This International Safety Management (ISM) Code requires that all companies who manage ships develop, implement, and maintain a Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure ships are operated safely and are environmentally friendly.
Once a company has developed and implemented their Safety Management System, it must be audited by an independent third party company authorized by the administration of the vessel's flag state. An annual internal audit follows after the vessel’s ISM Code certification.
This is where Azure Marine Solutions Sdn Bhd comes into the picture. We are independent from the activities on board (ISM Code, Part A, 12.4) and equipped to conduct annual internal audits at any port in Asia.
